ATM SAFETY TIPS

  • Choose ATMs Wisely: Use ATMs located in well-lit, populated areas or inside buildings with controlled access. Avoid isolated or poorly lit ATMs, especially at night.
  • Inspect the ATM: Before using the ATM, check for any suspicious devices attached to the card slot or keypad. If anything looks out of place or damaged, use a different ATM and report it to the bank.
  • Protect Your PIN: Shield your PIN with your hand or body while entering it, to prevent anyone from seeing or recording it. Memorize your PIN instead of writing it down.
  • Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Stay alert and aware of who is around you while using the ATM. Avoid distractions such as talking on the phone or wearing headphones.
  • Complete Transactions Quickly: Have your card ready and know your transaction details before approaching the ATM. Once your transaction is complete, immediately take your card, cash, and receipt.
  • Secure Your Card and Cash: Put your card, cash, and receipt away securely before leaving the ATM. Avoid counting your money at the ATM or in public view.
  • Monitor Your Account: Regularly check your bank statements and transaction history for any unauthorized transactions. Report any discrepancies to your bank immediately.
  • Use ATMs Inside Banks During Business Hours: If possible, use ATMs located inside bank branches during business hours, as they are generally safer and monitored.
  • Be Cautious of Strangers: Avoid assistance from strangers at the ATM, even if they seem helpful or friendly. If you feel uneasy or threatened, cancel your transaction and leave immediately.
  • Report Suspicious Activity: If you notice anything suspicious or unusual at an ATM, such as someone loitering nearby or tampering with the machine, report it to the bank and local authorities.
